Nicolas BROOYMANS

Basse

In just a few years, Nicolas Brooymans has secured an undeniable place on the music scene: the beauty and ease of his voice across its full range, the intensity of his singing, and an evident stage presence have earned him increasingly numerous engagements on prestigious stages.

His career flourishes above all in the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, and Nicolas Brooymans is the indispensable guest of leading specialist ensembles with whom he performs throughout Europe. He sings very regularly with Correspondances (Sébastien Daucé), particularly in the French repertoire. He has taken part in numerous recordings by the ensemble, all critically acclaimed (motets by Moulinié; Le Concert Royal de la Nuit; motets and élévations by Dumont; Litanies à la Vierge, Pastorales de Noël, Histoires Sacrées and Descente d'Orphée aux enfers by Charpentier, Perpetual Night).

Other collaborations have followed, confirming his growing reputation with leading ensembles: the Ensemble Pygmalion of Raphaël Pichon, the Collegium 1704 of Vaclav Luks, Les Surprises of Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas, I Gemelli of Emiliano Gonzalez-Toro, Les Arts Florissants of William Christie, the Ensemble Jupiter of Thomas Dunford, Le Banquet Céleste of Damien Guillon, Le Concert des Nations of Jordi Savall, Les Accents of Thibault Noally, the Ensemble Artaserse of Philippe Jaroussky, and the Ensemble Près de votre oreille of Robin Pharo.

Recent seasons have shown his commitment to the widest possible variety of repertoire. Nicolas is regularly invited to perform in the great works of the sacred repertoire from every era. He shone in Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine on major tours with Pygmalion and I Gemelli (Paris, Versailles, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Seville); Handel's Dixit Dominus and Scarlatti's Il Primo Omicidio (in the role of Voce di Lucifero) with Les Accents during two concerts at the 2025 edition of the Festival de Beaune; the St John Passion with the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Versailles (recorded for the CVS label); and Mozart's Requiem with the Orchestre des Pays-de-la-Loire and the Orchestre Consuelo of Victor Julien-Laferrière.

On the opera side, notable engagements include revivals of the Aix-en-Provence production of Il Combattimento in Caen and of The Magic Flute in Versailles; Rossini's La Cenerentola (Don Magnifico) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Opéras of Bordeaux and Rouen; Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio (Osmin) at the Opéra Royal de Versailles in a staging by Michel Fau; Lully's Armide (Hidraot and Ubalde) at Drottningholm, conducted by Francesco Corti and staged by Florent Siaud; tours with I Gemelli in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria and then Caccini's La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina (Toulouse, Madrid, Brussels, Amsterdam, Ambronay, Versailles…); and Ariodante (in the role of the King of Scotland), conducted by Stefan Plewniak and staged by Nicolas Briançon in Versailles. He made a strong impression in Agrippina (in the role of Lesbo), conducted by David Bates and staged by Robert Carsen at the Opéra de Rouen.
Nicolas regularly appears in the role of Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen: at the Opéra de Toulon, the Opéra de Rouen, and, most recently, the Opera di Roma.

The 2025/2026 season saw the beginning of a remarkable collaboration with Philippe Jaroussky as conductor: a tour of Alcina (in the role of Melisso) with the Ensemble Artaserse (Paris, Barcelona, Montpellier), followed by Aci, Galatea e Polifemo (in the role of Polifemo) with La Scintilla at the Zurich Opera House.

For 2026/2027, exciting projects lie ahead: Mozart's Great Mass in C minor with the Kammerorchester Basel and Francesco Corti; Le Nozze di Figaro (in the roles of Bartolo and Antonio) with the same conductor and B'Rock at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; an extensive tour (Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Lausanne, and Essen) of Agrippina (this time in the role of Claudio) with Thibault Noally and Les Accents; and Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges in Bucharest under the direction of Benjamin Lévy.

Nicolas has collaborated on several album with ensemble I Gemelli (Monteverdi, Orfeo, Il Ritorno d’Ulisse), ensemble Correspondance, ensemble Pygmalion also. His last recording was devoted to Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri with Le Concert des Nations and Jordi Savall.
